  • On June 9th, 1863, during the Battle of Brandy Station, an early morning encounter on dusty Beverly's Ford Road would prove the bravery of Union Col. Benjamin F. "Grimes" Davis, and cost him his life. Confederate officer Lt. Owen Allen seized the opportunity to confront Buford's Union officer and use the single ball that his pistol retained.
